The mysterious moon of Saturn: A ship? An artificial satellite?

If there is a moon that takes the ranking of all mysteries, it is certainly Japeto. Like most celestial bodies has a name associated with Greek mythology. And who was it japeto? A titan, son of Ea and Uranus, and father of Atlas, is considered a precursor of humanity itself.

Now, our protagonist today is a moon of enormous dimensions.A real Ice heart titan that sets up a whole bunch of questions, theories and mysteries that inspire the minds of scientists...and lovers of riskier speculation.

Are you with us? on this trip?

Japeto...is it a moon? A crashed ship? Or maybe a fake satellite?

If there is something for which Japeto is usually news, it is for its incredible avalanches of ice, the most impressive ever seen, a spectacle for astronomers who do not hesitate to publish their explanations in scientific journals. There are many research centers that have the "lenses of their telescopes" placed at this point in the near universe.

The mysterious moon of Saturn: A ship? An artificial satellite?

Japeto is Saturn's eighth satellite. First riddle? It is very far from the planet itself. Its orbit is in such a distance from the rings of Saturn itself, that it is said that from it, the planet itself and the rest of satellites, all located in its equator, can be seen calmly.

The journal Nature Geosciencie often publishes works on Japeto very often, especially those dedicated to those avalanches of ice and landslides that seem to defy the law of physics. Now it is worth seeing in detail what they are all its enigmas.

It is a black and white cloud

Indeed, Japeto is white and black. The dark part occupies less space, and the other half, a translucent white with mysterious flashes bluish, has its origin in the material that this satellite would be composed of: ice.

This moon is almost as big as Titan, and is mostly made up of ice and some rocks, it attracts the attention of experts a lot.How can it remain without collapsing? Something incredible, no doubt, considering that it has received the impact of dozens of meteorites: T has craters over 350km!

The mysterious moon of Saturn: A ship? An artificial satellite?

The «side dark »of Japeto remains impassive, it is not known very well what has caused this coloration, or if it is the color of the rocks...There is no clear or conclusive data.

A mysterious mountain range...are we facing a satellite artificial?

It was in December 2004 when the Cassini spacecraft passed near it and could finally have clearer images of the surface of Japeto. Its surface is incredibly rough, so much, that there is no lack of voices that warn of whether we would not be facing an artificial construction.

The mysterious moon of Saturn: A ship? An artificial satellite?

Japeto is not a spherical moon, but bulky, and in turn, has a mysterious mountain range that runs through its equator. From afar, that moon looks like a nut, like if it were «joined by two halves» thanks to that central mountain range.

The avalanches

We pointed it out at the beginning. It is not known what causes them or if it is due to simple friction phenomena I always thaw the satellite, but they have such strength and move so many sides that the surface of this moon is constantly changing.

Scientists indicate at the same time something curious: its coefficient of friction falls and begins to flow instead of collapsing.Run infinite kilometers before your energy disappears and stops. These ice avalanches are something little seen and so excessive, that comes to understand even where that force arises to ram them.

What if it was actually a ship?

This theory is the defended by those more risky and less scientific voices that maintain the idea that Japeto is not a satellite. The anomalies of its composition, its shape, the ice, or that strange «dark zone» , would be hiding perhaps some kind of mysterious alien structure.

The mysterious moon of Saturn: A ship? An artificial satellite?

Do you think it could be like that? What is your opinion about Saturn's mysterious eighth moon? Do not hesitate to leave us your comments and find out if we are really...alone in the universe.
