Luk Thep, the Thai dolls for good luck
For centuries in Thailand there was the custom of reverence some small figurines known as Kuman Thong It was believed that attracted good luck if they were treated conveniently. The name means "golden sanctified young man." Primarily these figurines were made of children with fetuses to which a special type of lacquer was applied and covered with a layer of bread of gold. They were also used in necromancy. From this custom they have derived the modern Luk Thep .
The Luk Thep are hyperrealistic dolls , but unlike of the ancient Kuman Thong have no any relationship with real children or fetuses .Luk thep or «Look Thep» means «child angel» and the year 2015, in Thailand they became immensely popular at the hands of a creator of these dolls Mananya Boonmee.
The popular belief is that if a Buddhist monk blesses the doll is impregnated with the spirit of a child .The owner of the luk Thep should take care of him as if he were s or his own son.He must give him food, drink, clothing and cover all those needs that he would have if he were a real child. In return, the Luk Thep will provide him with good fortune. There are companies that They offer services so that the owners of the dolls comply with all the care and are worthy of good luck.
However, sometimes the owners of the Luk Thep lose faith in their doll when things are not going well for them or at least as good as they would like. The problem for them is what to do with the «child angel» since, although it has not provided them with the luck they expected, they also don't want to suffer the consequences if the doll gets angry about leaving him.The superstition is very strong and many of them choose to leave them at the monaster gate ios and Buddhist temples that know they accept them, so that it is the monks who take care of their care. The monks pick them up and usually place them in rooms and apparently serve them drinks of red color that they think are preferred by the Luk Thep.
The Thais are not the only people in Asia who have doll-related superstitions. In Korea they believe that some of them guide you at the time of death.
