The dog Boye, the familiar spirit of Rupert del Rhin
Rupert del Rhin was an Anglo-Germanic prince, son of German prince Frederick V and his wife Isabel, who was the eldest daughter of James I of England, who was born in 1619 and died in 1682 .As a German fighter against the Spaniards in the Netherlands, he also faced the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in Germany and, as the nephew of the English king and cousin of the next monarch, participated in the English Civil War from 1642 to 1646.It was at this stage that the sinister fame of a diabolical sorcerer and his family spirit dog was won.

Boye, also sometimes called Boy He was a white hunting poodle who was said to have magical powers. He has always accompanied his master since he was given away as a prisoner during the 30-year War and died in battle of Marston Moor on July 2, 1644.
Rupert del Rhin participated in the English Civil War in favor of the realistic side.Despite being a soldier brave and intelligent, he won many enemies, even among those of his own side. The problem came from the fact that he had participated in the 30-year war, a wild and bloody war, and had "customs" that the English considered "Inappropriate" .He killed those who surrendered and carried out mass executions in addition to other barbaric and ruthless acts during and after the battles. His enemies began to say that he was the devil or a sorcerer who served the devil and therefore, his dog Boye who accompanied him on many occasions, the incarnation of the evil one or a family spirit at his service.

The dog Boye, who frequently accompanied his master in battle, was attributed powers such as the ability to find treasures, be invulnerable in the attacks, catch with the mouth the bullets destined for Rupert and even make prophecies like Mother Shipton herself.Others said that the prince could transform into the dog when he wanted since it was the devil himself. The soldiers who accompanied Rupert del Rhin, were so happy with the dog Boye and the fear he caused among his enemies, that he was named "sergeant major" .

In the battle of Marston Moor, in 1644, the dog Boye died.Rupert had left the dog tied in the camp, but he escaped and followed him to the battlefield. The realistic army was losing and Rupert was seen forced to flee leaving him behind him.At the end of the fight, they found the dog killed. His "powers" had not been enough to come alive on that occasion.
