It is possible that many of our readers remember the terrible disaster that occurred in October 1985, in Mameyes , a sector of the urban town of the city of Ponce, in Puerto Rico.
The constant rains that were lived for several days because of the storm Isabel, gave way to one of the best known tragedies of this region. The mountain slipped taking all the houses, and with them, the lives of about 100 people, most of them are buried forever before the difficulty of recovering the bodies.
30 years ago of the Mameyes disaster, and something that many people do not know about those days, is that a series of children aged between 3 and 5 years reflected in their drawings what was going to happen.
The drawings They were held on October 4.The mountain slipped on October 7.
We give you all the information in the following article.
A I draw you too lugubrious...
Darkness hovered over Mameyes in the form of a dark tongue, a sea of earth and lethal debris that broke the silence of the night, right in the Witching Time.03.30.
The United States, Mexico, France and Venezuela immediately deployed all means to rescue all possible people, but the work was almost impossible given the magnitude of the disaster.
Because fatality comes when it is least expected, in a cruel and stealthy way.Now well, it is not known very well how, but throughout history there are usually these strange coincidences. Surely you remember our article on the children of Aberfan, and how days before the disaster of 1966 in this small Scottish town, a series of children s began to sound like "a dark tongue of land", buried them in their school. And so it happened.
It was a disaster of similar characteristics to that occurred in Puerto Rico.
However, let's put our time machine at the right time and travel to October 4, 1985, in Mameyes .We are in a humble school where very young children between 3 and 5 years celebrate a birthday with their teachers. They are surrounded by a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, so the teachers invite them to draw a picture for later, hang it in class.
Children do so, calmly and with laughter. The teachers barely pay attention to the drawings. They hang them up and return to their routines. But nobody knows what shadows or lights will bring tomorrow, and 3 days later, the town of Mameyes barely exists anymore.
Notwithstanding that small school in the suburbs remained standing, and a few weeks later, when classes resumed, many of the children in that classroom were no longer there.the disaster. The pain was therefore extreme, so one of the teachers could only get close to that wall where days before, laughing, the children had made those drawings.
I look at them sadly for some seconds, knowing that some of those little ones would never come back, when suddenly , I was shocked by some of the drawings, especially with 9 of them.
- Everyone had crosses in them, crosses that seemed to run through a dark sea.
- Those 9 drawings, unlike the rest, showed only black and gray colors.
- Among those rudimentary and elementary strokes, you could see houses turned upside down that floated between that dark tongue, next to the crosses and several people who were lying down, lifeless.
- Some of the children had even drawn fire engines next to those destroyed houses and turned upside down.
- Today these stunning drawings they are exhibited in a collection of the Ponce History Museum, in the Memorial Hall «Mameyes neighborhood».
Maria de Lourdes, is one of the girls who She is still alive today and she still remembers those fateful days. She is one of the authors of one of those drawings and, still, when asked what led her to capture those images, she says she does not know but, that however, as he grew up and was aware of it, he has marked him throughout his life.
In the disaster he lost one of his friends, another child who also showed signs of that prophecy that would be fulfilled 3 days later, Maria Lourdes says she does not know what led them to draw those images, she was barely 5 years old, however, it is clear that it is very possible that children, at those ages, are more receptive to certain things.A gift that surely is lost with maturity.
Who knows, whatever it is, stories like these always invite us to reflect, scare and admire us about fact that of course, we still do not understand.Do not hesitate to give us your opinion, and remember the case of the Cameron Macaulay boy, and his memories about a previous life.
