4 creepy legends of Transylvania
1.The cry of the bride of the Abrud castle
To the north of the city is the Abrud castle, a fortification built in the 16th century and named in a local legend.Apparently one invaders wanted to take over the castle which was being well protected by Francisco Rakoczi: To try to succeed, they sent a handsome officer who should love Rakoczi's daughter, but he ended up in love with the girl and told him how to get out of the fortress through a secret tunnel. To the girl's bad fortune , her father escaped and cursed her forever, and, as in u In Disney's story, she could only break the curse with a kiss of love .In fact, with three kisses that her beloved should give : one turned into a frog, snake and looking like a crying girlfriend .
Guess who they haven't kissed since the 16th century?
2.Hunyad Castle
Hunyad Castle is as beautiful as it is depressing, one of its towers is called Nej Bojsia which, in Spanish, means "Do not be afraid"-ready to be instantly afraid-and the coat of arms has a Raven, anything else? Yes.It is said that Iancu de Hunedora promised freedom for three Turks if they dug in a rock until they found a water well ; luckily, it took 28 years and before completing the work, Iancu passed away. His wife did not keep his word towards the Turks, who, instead of being free men, were beheaded. Before they died they wrote "Now you have water, but you have no heart", next to three names on a wall.
Castle visitors can see the well and the sad dedication, written in Turkish.Chilling.
3.The legend of the flutist
At some point in our lives we have all known the story of the flutist that I release to a whole town of the plague of rats that invaded him with just the music of his instrument ...he took all but one.For that rat that remained, the flutist played a different melody and attracted all children of Hamelin .We know that Hamelin is in Germany and may not have much relationship with Transylvania, right? Although many legends say that children ended up drowned in a river or at the bottom of a ravine, there is a Transylvanian alternative with a less terrible ending.
According to tradition, children hypnotized by the music coming out of the flute they were guided to the lands of Dracula, through the cave of Vaghis. A version that makes a lot of sense, as many Germans from Hamelin emigrated to Transylvania and their descendants still live there.Curious, right?
4.Imprisoned before divorce
It is said that a long time ago, in Sibiu, couples wishing to divorce were imprisoned in a prison tower for two weeks , forced to live day and night in a small space-torture, if the marriage was unsustainable-the brutal system should work, because in the end, according to tradition, only one couple continued with the divorce.
Near Sibiu, a similar" therapy "was done in a church, but it didn't last two weeks...In this case, the confinement alone it ended when they really fixed the relationship, even if it was because the “until death do us part” is fulfilled. To consider it macabre is to fall short.
