The excursion to Hanging Rock a mystery unresolved
Australian history has two stages, a "white" that begins from the arrival of the first British settlers in 1788 and another, the oldest and native, from the culture and traditions of the aborigines of those lands.This has been transmitted from generation to generation, from long ago, through stories and songs, known as the Time of Dream, which constitute a kind of spiritual guide that puts them in relation to the natural environment, its future and its past, from the origins of the universe from the dream.

Precisely inspired by this legendary place and in some urban legends, which apparently appeared later in this same place, the Australian writer Joan Lindsay writes her Picnic novel in Hanging Rock in 1967, almost dreamlike, according to herself confessed in some interview, because the whole plot of his work came through terrible nightmares very realistic, almost as memories, which he had every night for 4 weeks.And it is that Lady Lindsay was a person with a certain sensory capacity: in her company the clocks stopped and she was able to visualize the past and the future.
A stranger is told in the book an event happened to a group of ladies from a renowned aristocratic school, the Appleyard, during an excursion, on February 14, 1900, to Hanging Rock, an area very visited for its scenic beauty.
On their walk, they coincide with a very powerful family of the time, the Fitzhubert, who will witness how after lunch, 4 of the students move away from the group located in the picnic area to venture into the mountains.
When the afternoon comes the teachers begin to gather the girls for the return and send to call the 4 girls who had approached the mountain, but they do not find them, nor a teacher who had followed them.They only manage to find the smallest of the group (Edith), who appeared fleeing terrified from the totally alienated mountain, with the sensation of having awakened from a bad dream that I only partially remembered.
Days later they found one of the female students fainted without one and barefoot, Irma, and never knew anything more than the rest of the disappeared despite the intense search led to out by the police in the area.
Is this a real event? If we give credibility to the epilogue of the book , could be true, because it invites the reader to research.In fact, some have sought this event in newspapers, newspapers and magazines of the time without finding any news about it.Although not cease to be true, because the news in 1900 did not have as much echo as now and, in fact, all the characters that appear in the story are real ...But does the book end up like this without more?
